Road Signs
As part of a class assignment, we were given 4 themes to create and develop a road sign for each theme.
My 4 themes & research
I started by gathering research and mind mapping on each theme then began sketching ideas for each topic.
Part 1
Once I had enough sketches, we needed 3 concepts for each theme, hand drawn into diamond shapes coloured with black and yellow to depict the colours of road signs commonly seen.
dairy farm
Haida of Northwest Coast
Lascaux caves
prehistoric world

Part 2
A favourite sign from each theme was selected and reproduced in sketch form at a larger size. This sketch was brought into Illustrator to create 4 vectorized road signs.
This lesson introduced the use of Pantone Colours (spot colours), therefore we needed to include 3 solid spot colours (black, yellow, and 1 colour of our choice-blue).
Submitted version
Clockwise: Prehistoric World / Dairy Farm / Lascaux Caves / Haida of Northwest Coast
Finalized version
I gathered additional feedback to make minor tweaks to my larger road signs:
Applied thicker strokes to various elements in each road sign to make design more cohesive and noticeable from further distance.
Extended some strokes to meet diamond shape.
Adjusted bow string to make more distinct around diamond.
