The Fried Fish Family

The Fried Fish Family is a conceptual family owned fish & chip business consisting of carts that travel around the province in Nova Scotia.

Overview

This is an on-going project where I create brands off of one word prompts from Katrina Romulo’s brandtober challenge. Prompt #1: fish.

I decided to think about how these brands could be conceptualized to showcase mini user flows via platforms such as an app, a website, etc. to continue building on my design skills.

Inspiration moodboard

1. Traveling cart

I wanted to use a simple design with familiar shapes that I could reproduce using the pen tool. I wanted to incorporate the canopy to give it a traditional style.

2. Bold colours

I wanted to use colours that would be bright, fun, and stand out like these colours on the food truck.

3. Newspaper

Fish & chips reminds me about how sometimes it is served on a layer of newspaper. This stacked newspaper image caught my eye and I thought it could be used to represent the canopy.

Logo design

I wanted the fonts to have a curved shape to encompass a feeling of a closeness, representing a tight-knit, wholesome family travelling together like a school of fish.

Cart design

Customer incentive to collect a free fish & chip meal and to encourage exploring the province.

It was important to have each cart to be individualized, yet playful by using a different colour theme to represent each family member, but also to be easy for customers to distinguish between the carts.

A “fish finder” location app that customers could use to learn more about the business, track upcoming travels, access the menu, and view a map to find directions to where each cart location.
